Powerboating

We teach to the The RYA's National Powerboat Scheme which is for those wanting to drive small open powerboats such as RIBs (rigid inflatable boats), sports boats and small launches. Practical courses The scheme comprises a series of practical courses which can be complemented by navigation, VHF, First Aid and other one-day support courses. Additional courses will be added if there is enough demand. You can enter the scheme at any level, provided that you have the relevant experience beforehand. Be realistic when assessing your current experience and abilities and, if in doubt, discuss your requirements with us before booking your course. LSTA teach power boating in a range of craft, suitible for all ages.

For further details, choose a course from the list on the left of your screen. There is also the RYA Honda Youth RIB Competition, heats for which are run by LSTA each year. Last year Gordon got 3rd Place in the UK final! - go to dinghy sailing/cadets/youth rib contest on the list of links on the left hand side for more info. Going abroad If you want to drive a powerboat outside the UK you are likely to need certification, often in the form of the International Certificate of Competence. You should also be aware of the local requirements for drivers, boats and licenses wherever you go and, if possible, take with you translations of the certificates that you hold.
