Training Structure

We split the cadets into 4 Groups:

  • Begginers

Begginers work towards obtaining RYA Youth stage 1. They start sailing in our RS vision dinghies with an instructor in the boat. Once they are comfortable (and in suitible conditions) the instructor will get out the boat for short periods and teach from a coach boat near the Vision. As the cadets gain confidence the instructor will spend more time teaching from outside the boat. If the group is doing realy well then they might give the single handed RS Terra dinghies a try!

  • Intermediate

Intermediates work towards obtaining RYA youth stage 2 and 3. They are tought for 10 week blocks switching between our RS Terra (single handed) and RS Feva (double handed) dinghies through the season. The instructor will normaly be in a coach boat, thogh he (or she) may jump in a boat to give a quick demo or talk a cadet throught a complex manouver.

  • Advanced

Advanced cadets work towards obtaining RYA Stage 4. They are taught in our Topper and Pico and Feva dinghies.  The instructor will be in a coach boat.

  • Senior

Senior cadets work towards obtaining RYA Unit Awards like Seamanship Skills, Day Sailing etc. They are taught in a variety of dinghies including Picos, Fevas, Visions and Dart 16s. The instructor will be in a coach boat.

  • Race Training

Race Traingin runs on monday evenings and is open to all cadets from just haveing achived a stage 2 or above (basicaly the ability to sail round a triangle on their own) to being part of the national squads. Training is split into a number of groups and is tailord to the needs of the sailors.
